In the past few months we have been fighting with our modern technology. At separate times we have completely lost our phone service, lost our internet service, lost our alarm system and our computer system crashed. Two cars had flat tires and we had a delivery slowed/cancelled by a draw bridge that got stuck in the up position. During all of this hardship and significant anxiety I noticed that the one constant in my mechanized life was the Samuel Mulliken clock in our entrance that continued to run and kept good time through it all. Now I don’t think our internet will run on weights and a pendulum but it is eye opening to realize that all of our high tech conveniences are not as reliable as 18th century technology. They certainly aren’t as attractive.
